A little middle of the night family field trip!!

Yes, this is Carter and Ava at 3:30 am this morning, and yes that is a hospital bracelet Ava is sporting, but NO it is not because I rushed her to the hospital in the middle of the night for a brain scan!

Ava woke up a little after midnight with her yearly case of spasmodic croup. This has been going on since she was almost one. The first year 911 came out in the middle of the night to give her a breathing treatment and a steroid, the second year we called our neighbors in the middle of the night to come stay with Carter while we rushed her to Scottish Rite, and this year we thought we'd mix it up a little and take the whole fam.........including the dog, to the emergency room!..............(that part was real fun when we got to the emergency drop off and I forgot the dog was in the car and swung open the door.................)

Anyways, all sarcasim aside for a sec.........it is VERY scary when this happens to her, it is horrible to see and hear your child struggling to breathe!! Thankfully, I know immediately what to do when this happens, and the Lord has faithfully protected us and her each time.
The good news is that age three is usually the limit for severe spasmodic croup, so hopefully this will be the last time!!........
I will include a link about croup if you are interested in seeing what it is, how to treat it, and what to do in an emergency! It would be good to know just a few quick steps to take should this ever happen to your child. Croup can be life threatning, and we know that from experience.....last years bout with it was a very close call, and as we were told at the emergency room, could have easily "gone the other way" had we not followed the appropriate steps!! I flinch to just think of that night, and the "could haves".
BUT, we serve a mighty God, and he protected us that night and last night!!
Thank you Lord!
